Hank utilizes Manny as a multifunctional tool to help him live and navigate his way back home. The film is filled with quirkiness and weirdness. In many scenes we see Manny farting and getting things shot out of his mouth which may sound off-putting. But through amazing performances by Daniel Radcliff and different film techniques employed by the Daniels helped make a masterpiece that makes you make you look past the weirdness and appreciate the film. Many themes and topics were portrayed throughout the film such as self-acceptance and identity, Hank fights with self-acceptance and wonders who he is throughout the entire movie. He feels cut off from the world around him and is faced with memories of his past. In the end, the movie makes the point that one of the most important steps to happiness and fulfillment in life is accepting oneself, flaws, and all. Another big theme was loneliness and isolation, as Hank develops a relationship with Manny and ends up being his best friend. The movie explores how loneliness affects our emotions and how even the most unlikely friendships can be comforting and calming.
